The Map Device: tiers, modifiers and rarity

Map items are Pixoot's dungeon scrolls: drop one into the Map Device in Haven and the land you pick is re-run under stacked modifiers, a harder tier and a countdown. What follows is the whole machine: modifiers and weights, rarity by mod count, tier power, timers and where the scrolls drop.

What the Map Device is

The device is a 3×3 stone structure in Haven's plaza, the same footprint as the waystone. Tap it and the insertion window lists every scroll in your satchel with its tier and mod count. It only runs in town — solo play says "Bring the map to the Map Device in Haven.", the server says "The Map Device is only powered in Haven." — and inserting consumes the scroll, moves only you and wipes the target land's boss gate and kill counter.

Inserting a map: tiers and rarity

Rarity is the mod count and nothing else: 0 mods is white (a clean board, no modifiers), 1–2 is magic, 3 is rare and 4 is boss-forged. The count rolls 25% white, 47% for one or two, 23% for three and 5% for four, and a boss kill adds one mod, capped at four. Price follows the same maths — (45 + 28 × tier) × (rarity + 1) and then a ±20% roll.

The nine modifiers

Every modifier stacks and rolls its own strength between its minimum and maximum, so no two maps feel identical. Weights decide how often each is picked, and nothing repeats on one scroll:

ModifierEffectWeight
PackedMonsters pack tighter — +30% to +50% monster count10
ReinforcedMonsters have more health — +35% to +60%10
FeralMonsters deal more damage — +30% to +55%9
MightyMonsters fight at a higher rank — +1 or +2 ranks6
BountifulMonsters drop more treasure — +40% to +75%6
SwiftMonsters move faster — +25% to +45%7
ElderAn elder presence deepens the land: +50% health, +35% damage, +25% count, +25% treasure3
Double BossTwo bosses guard this land3
EventfulRandom events strike constantly3

The co-op server keeps its own copy of the same nine and clamps every modifier before it counts — count and speed at +100%, health and damage at +300%, treasure at +200%, rank at +3 — then caps the running totals on top.

Tiers: enemy power per level

The tier field starts at zero and is capped at 16, but the interface prints it one higher: the minimap reads "Tier 4 — enemies +60% power", which is tier 3 underneath. Each step multiplies enemy health, damage and XP by 1 + 0.2 × tier, so tier 3 hits 60% harder than tier 0; solo play also lifts gold by 1 + 0.12 × tier, and the server applies the health and damage half in co-op.

Tier picks the scenery too — the land index is the tier modulo the campaign's land count, so an elevated tier cycles the campaign. Drops land above the kill: 45% stay at +0, 30% go +1, 20% go +2 and 5% go +3, all stopped at the cap, while Cartographer stock rolls the same ladder at 50/30/15/5.

Timers

Every scroll carries a countdown from 3:00 to 7:00 in 30-second steps — nine values only. The clock sits in the top bar, turns red and warns at 60 seconds, again at 10, and at zero says "Time's up! The portal pulls you back to Haven..." and beams you home. Killing the land's boss freezes it for good; death ends the expedition.

The run's boss and the portal home

A run is a boss fight, not a free-roam. The kill counter resets on activation, so the boss wakes at the usual 24 kills — two with Double Boss, where "One boss down... the other remains!" keeps you honest. Drop the last one and the run completes with "The map boss falls! Take the portal back to Haven!", opening a back portal where it fell. A solo run also starts with a back portal near spawn, and H beacons you home from anywhere.

How to get maps

Drops. A normal kill has a 4% chance to spill a scroll and a boss has 85%. Solo play rolls those on the client; in co-op the server rolls them hunter by hunter, keeps the same 4% and 85%, and gives a Treasure Golem's loot blast a 30% shot. Only lands you have conquered can roll, and the first land is always available.

The Cartographer. The MAPS stall in Haven sells rolled scrolls for Gold off the same formula, with stock rolled when the stall is set up for the visit. Both fill the same satchel.
